Condo farming is a new model that responds to the shortage of accessible land for farmers who wish to farm without renting. The basic idea involves an initial investment in your own mobile condo living space, as well as access to prime farmland for food production. There is no down payment, you will have creative input into the design of your accommodations, and your only payments will cover on-going expenses of the farm. Your total investment is contingent on the final condo unit design, the expense of building, and the inclusion of features such as alternative electricity and heating sources. The vision is to build affordable, efficient living spaces. In the end, the goal is for each farmer (or farm family) to own their ‘condo unit’, and have access to two acres of agroecological land in constant rotation, as well as access to commons land for livestock and all shared spaces on the farm. Condo Charter
The farm has access t0 100 acres of arable land, as well as farm buildings. Each condo unit comes with access to a minimum of two acres of farmland, as well as commons land for livestock. At least one person in each condo unit must work on the farm. Along with the overall goals and annual planning for the farm, you will have the opportunity to help shape the rest of the condo duties, rules, decisions and benefits.
